CULTURE&SOUND: THE NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL EXPERIENCE
CULTURE&SOUND is about rediscovering the essence and roots of Carnival, showcasing what Notting Hill Carnival means to Caribbeans and Londoners alike, and its importance to the city.
Join us for:
- 6:30pm | A photo-story exhibition exploring Notting Hill over time and through the eyes of the people who make it, from spectator to sound-system
- 7:30pm | “The cultural importance of Carnival” – a panel hosted by BBC 1Xtra DJ Melody Kane and featuring Rampage (largest static sound-system in Europe), Ansel Wong & Linett Kamala (Notting Hill Carnival trustees), discussing the history of Notting Hill, its cultural impact and the best way to navigate the Bank Holiday
- 8.30pm | Warm up for the weekend dancehall and soca set, courtesy of DJ Melody Kane
Expect to wine your waist, enjoy a BACARDÍ® Rum cocktail on arrival & connect with the beauty of this iconic event. Plus, everyone will leave with complimentary “get ready for Carnival goodie-bags”, packed with everything you’ll need to make the most of the weekend!
Is there a link between our insatiable appetite for the “next new trend” and social media influencers posting daily outfit looks which can be purchased in a matter of seconds? Are apps like Instagram luring us down a path of over-consumption and neglecting to do their bit for the environment? How can we as influencers/consumers be more conscious about our fashion choices?
